Music producer, Ball J has blamed rapper Guru for contributing to the decline of the Azonto genre in Ghana.
Guru after releasing one of the biggest Azonto songs titled ‘Lapaz Toyota’ in 2012 proceeded to start a new dance craze with the song ‘Alkaeda’.
In an interview with Dr. Pounds on Hitz Gallery, Ball J was unhappy that Ghanaians, especially Guru, neglected Azonto.
‘Let’s take it to the next level…the next minute Guru went to drop Alkaeda…throwing bombs into the Azonto’, he bemoaned.
Ball J believes that Afro beats tunes and dances could still have been referred to as Azonto to project the image of Ghana’s industry.
‘We should keep what we have and just change the style and keep the same name…We could still have called it Azonto till today with whichever dance that comes’, he added.
On the other hand, Ball J said that Afro Pop and Afro Beats will not help Ghana’s music industry.
‘Afro is taking us nowhere. Afro is just an identity’, he stressed.
Ball J is currently promoting his latest tune titled ‘Papa No Nie’ featuring Dahill & Hxncho.
